Peter Eastgate

Peter Eastgate, another famous WSOP millionaire is nicknamed ‘Icegate.’ He has won this tag probably because of his icy cool demeanor at the tournament tables. However, this really young poker star (born December 13th 1985) though hailing from Dalum in Denmark originally, is now a resident of London, United Kingdom and associated with Pokerstars.com

His total winnings from poker games has been a whopping $20,073,392, among which there are 21 cash game earnings and 7 first place finishes contributing to his poker stash! He has one WSOP bracelet to his credit and dreams of adding more to this count.

Peter reveals that ever since he graduated from high school, he was fascinated by numbers and thus chose to study economics when he applied to Aarhus University. However, fate conspired to deal him a different hand from what he had worked out in his mind, and so Peter was drawn to poker hands more than subject numbers and dry statistics. Eventually, Peter dropped out of college when he was convinced that poker was his calling and thereafter he pursued the game full-time.

The practice must have done him good because he soon built a considerable bankroll from playing regular games and moved up to participating in high-stakes cash games online in which he did best in short handed games and games requiring heads-up play.

His attention was captured by live play events soon after and Peter reached the final table of Paddy Poker Irish Open, which enabled him to enter the cash game hosted as part of the EPT event more famous as the Scandinavian Open, which convinced him that he was good enough to sign up for the 2008 WSOP. It seemed to the best decision for the youngster, since Peter outstripped 6,843 other players to clear his path for the November Nine main event at the WSOP, the same year.

When he returned from this tournament, he was clearly on a roll because he beat Ivan Demidov, in a Las Vegas during a heads-up match to pocket a huge win of $9,152,416 – a sum that made Peter Eastgate the youngest Main Event winner of WSOP 2008.

Soon after, Peter secured an 18th place finish during the WSOP European chapter in the Main Event and won the next year’s Caribbean Adventure cash as well as side event prize totaling $343,000 for the grand poker tournament hosted by Pokerstars.com

During the WSOP Main Event in 2009, Peter finished in 78th place, but later that year, he stood an admirable second during the EPT London Main Event; by reaching the final table at Deauville, where he had placed 5th in t the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship hosted in 2010, Peter made his presence at poker tournaments as a regular pretty much well known.

Thus, it was his frequent practice sessions during online poker games where he did fairly well, balancing losses with wins and breaking even most times that Peter build up his ability to move up his game limits to realistically be able to opt for a full time poker career. Once he had sufficient experience playing in limit games of $200-400, Peter knew he was ready for endurance testing poker games and the 15 hours prior to being pitched against Ivan Demidov in the WSOP tournament proved his good judgment and improved playing skills.

Currently, Eastgate can be found battling wits with poker greats in online poker rooms favoring highest limits – when he is not appearing on High Stakes Poker episodes to fight tough with other top professionals.
